The Crown Series 5 finally lands on Netflix

The first episode of the latest series of The Crown has landed on the streaming platform, Netflix.

The news of its arrival has caused much excitement amongst fans of the show, which is largely filmed at Elstree Studios in London.

This series will see the turbulent period of the 1990s play out on screen including divorces, fire and the tragic death of Princess Diana.

The episode opens by highlighting the cracks appearing among members of The Royal Family shortly before Charles & Diana divorced.

The star-studded cast includes Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Jonathan Pryce as the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, while Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki play Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

The show had caused some backlash though before it even made it onto Netflix with producers accused of dialling up the true stories the episodes are based on.

This was once a superior costume drama, moments of 20th-century history packaged into an upmarket soap opera. But as the storylines catch up with the present, the show is edging towards trashy telenovela. - Daily Telegraph
