It comes after officers spotted a group of youths illegally travelling on Surron Bikes around the Quays. One member of the group was arrested, whilst the bike was seized under ‘Section 165’ of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

Greater Manchester Police said that they were “committed” to reducing the anti-social behaviour associated with those using Surron bikes, and stated that they would “deal” with those who engage in that behaviour.

Surron do produce some bikes which are road legal but according to the company’s website, all users must have motor insurance, a valid registration/ number plate, and a helmet which meets UK safety standards.

The company also produce several ‘off-road’ bikes, which are not legally allowed on UK public highways. It is these bikes that are concerned in the incidents that have taken in the Quays recently.

Greater Manchester Police request that those who know about any individuals using illegal off road bikes report it anonymously to ‘Crime Stoppers’ on 0800 555 111 or online via the GMP chat.
