MediaCity’s ‘original local’, The Dockyard, has now closed.
The pub released a statement on Facebook on the 31st of May saying: “We’ll be pulling our final pints and closing our doors for the last time. To every single one of you who’s walked through our doors over the last 13 years, thank you. You’ve not just been customers, you’ve been part of the Dockyard family. From after work drinks to weekend catch ups, we’ve loved being your local, and it’s been an honour to serve this amazing community.”
The pub also released a final cheeky message at the end saying “P.S. We’ve heard that something exciting is coming soon… so watch this space.”
Under this post, regulars of The Dockyard Pub were voicing their opinions. One commenter said “I wonder whats going on? Botanist closed down, Seven Brothers’ tent has disappeared and now the Dockyard is closing”, with another saying “What?! This was basically my SU with studying at the MediaCityUK Salford campus”. Another commenter remembered the pub’s history by saying “Can't believe it's been 13 years, so many memories, lunch breaks, Christmas parties, leaving dos and barmy summer drinks”.
Evidently, The Dockyard was a staple of not just Media City, but also of Salford itself.
So far, The Dockyard Pub has not released any more information on what will be replacing the iconic pub in Media City. Although, some rumours are flying around that it may be an Irish bar.
