“It’s on men and boys this issue” Andy Burnham speaks out as Manchester club boycott takes place

by Nathan Forey

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has asked people to report their friends if they believe they could be spiking women.

Burnham, 51, who has been the Mayor of Greater Manchester since May 2017, spoke at St Peters square where hundreds had gathered to call on clubs in the region to do more to combat the rise in cases of people being spiked.

He said “if you know of a friend who’s doing that you need to confront them and report them, because its straightforward criminal behavior”

On Wednesday as part of the #girlsnightincampaign, students boycotted clubs in Manchester to push venues to change their safety measures

The mayor also said “There is a culture change that’s needed here, that’s why I think this is about a educational reform”

More protests are planned across cities including London over the next few weeks.
