11 arrested after Britain First and counter protests in Manchester city centre

In light of protests from Britain First and other opposing organisations on Saturday (21/02/26), Greater Manchester police have issued a statement touching on their presence during the day itself as well as the multiple arrests made by the force.
Hundreds of protesters from the far-right group Britain First gathered in central Manchester last weekend, calling for ‘remigration and mass deportations’.

Extra officers were placed on duty to ‘support people’s right to protest peacefully while reducing the impact on the wider public’.
Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson said: “Thanks to the efforts of our officers on the ground and the planning done with our partners, hundreds of people from a range of groups were able to come together safely”.

Our of a total of 11 arrests were made throughout the day, and with two de-arrested, only one man has been convicted thus far for breaching a dispersal notice and has been conditionally bailed.
A total of 11 people were arrested on suspicion of the following offences:
Two men on suspicion of prevention of a breach of the peace
Two men on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers
Four men on suspicion of public order offences. One of these men was subsequently de-arrested and issued a summons.
One man on suspicion of an offence relating to the Crime and Disorder Act. He was subsequently de-arrested and given a dispersal notice.

With two de-arrested, nine of the arrested men are in custody.
“Greater Manchester is a place where people can confidently and lawfully express their views," added Asst. Chief Constable Rick Jackson.
