"At around 7.10pm today (19 January) six fire engines from across Greater Manchester attended a building fire involving a tumble dryer in a communal laundry room at a high-rise building on University Road, Salford", a spokesperson for GMFRS said. “Crews wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and are using a gas monitor and two hose reels to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remain in attendance at this time.”

Train services have been delayed and cancelled at Newton-Le-Willows Station this afternoon, after a male was involved in a major incident on the tracks.   Emergency services including: A police helicopter, ambulance, fire services, police officers and a network rail response team attended the scene.   A witness who wants to stay anonymous said: the man was believed to have been “struck by a train but was still alive.”   It was said by a worker, that the man had been crossing “back and forth”...
